A Bronx man who hurled an Eight-month-old canine to the ground has been sentenced to a 12 months in jail for the surprising crime.
Roberto Martinez, 25, slammed his girlfriend’s blended breed canine, named Sassy, to the ground within the hallway of her Leggett Ave. condo constructing in Hunts Level on Sept. 10, 2016, authorities stated.
Sassy’s proper hind leg was so badly mangled docs had been pressured to amputate it.
“Such inhumane actions won’t be tolerated and a jail sentence sends that message,” stated Bronx DA Darcel Clark in a press release launched shortly after the sentencing Wednesday.
The assault was captured on surveillance video. After, Martinez’s girlfriend introduced Sassy to a veterinarian, saying she had fallen down stairs.

The canine has since recovered and was adopted by a household and renamed Sally.
